Getting a Kenyan Birth Certificate

1. Complete the form at the bottom of this section:

  • Complete the form by hand; do not computer print
  • The form should be signed and dated by the applicant

2. Attach photocopies of:

  • Applicant's foreign birth certificate
  • Applicant's foreign passport
  • Parent(s)' Kenyan Birth Certificate(s)
  • Parent(s)' Kenyan Passport(s)
  • Parent(s)' Kenyan ID(s)
  • Parents' Marriage Certificate

Be sure to carry originals as well as they will need to see these and certify the copies.

3. Go to:

  • The Civil Registration Office at Hass Plaza, Lower Hill Road, Upper Hill, Nairobi (closed between 1pm - 2pm)
  • Ask to speak with Joyce
  • The application will go to the headquarters for approval, which can take anywhere from 7 to 28 days
  • Once approved, you will need to return to the office an pay the KES 50 typing fee, and come back to collect the certificate in 3 - 10 days
